Account Executive

Squared Communications is a DC-based public relations firm specializing in strategic communications, political campaigns, media relations, and public policy. Our clients include news organizations, foundations, Fortune 500 companies, and trade associations that have a daily media presence across multiple industries, including technology, climate and sustainability, and retail. 

The Account Executive will work across client teams to support public relations campaigns, including rapid response efforts and crisis communications as needed. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who learns quickly and is motivated to shape compelling narratives across sectors. They are genuinely plugged into current events and U.S. politics, and have ideas about how to translate what's happening in the news into smart, timely communications. This is an entry-level position well-suited for recent college graduates or professionals with 1–2 years of political and/or communications experience. 

This position is based in Washington, DC, and applicants must work out of the D.C. office at least three days a week.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing daily media intelligence and clip reports.
  • Drafting press releases, talking points, blogs, social media content, and statements.
  • Creating backgrounders and briefing documents for client speaking events and media appearances.
  • Developing and maintaining individualized press contact lists for clients.
  • Pitching stories to local and national media and conducting proactive outreach for on- and off-the-record engagement.
  • Providing light administrative and scheduling support to firm leadership. 
  • Staffing and supporting in-person client receptions, panels, and other events.
  • Supporting the firm's media training practice.
  • Providing strategic recommendations on media placement and outreach as requested.
  • Conducting research as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 1–2 years of experience in public relations, media, trade associations, government, or campaign work.
  • Strong writing, editing, and public speaking skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple accounts, work efficiently, and meet deadlines.
  • Deep knowledge of and genuine interest in current events and U.S. politics.
  • Experience in graphic design, website development, or event planning is a plus.
  • Passion for social media welcomed.

Compensation and Benefits

Squared Communications offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, with a range of $50,000–$60,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package including:
